BRITISH VICTORIAN THE QUEEN'S OWN LIGHT INFANTRY SHAKO IN STORAGE TIN. Victorian officer's 1869 pattern shako of the Queen's Own Light Infantry. Composed of a dark green felt with one strip of gold lace around the lower edge, two strips around the upper edge and a strip connecting the lower strip to the bottom upper strip at each ear. Exterior exhibits scattered mothing. Black leather visor lined with green leather. The front plate has a gilt Victorian crown over a horn inside a circle marked "THE QUEEN'S OWN LIGHT INFANTRY" over a silvered rayed star with a Victorian crown at the top. Black woolen pompom with a "VR" cypher on the silvered boss. Silvered rosettes suspend silvered velvet backed chin strap. Light brown leather sweatband remains intact and remains supple with a few stains. One crack at back of sweatband. Purple silk lining with "JONES & Co." label on crown. Lining exhibits several tears with crown and label intact. The shako is contained in a "JONES & Co." marked storage tin that exhibits a heavy patina on exterior and a nice Jappaned interior.
